Term 3 Immersion Assembly

Introduction: Mr Jacobson - Bike
Stage - music - theme: Game On

P1: Team 1 - Around the world athletes - Queen taking: Key message in her talk.

P2: Team 2 - Athletes competing in sports.

P3: Team 3 - Rhythmic Gymnastics - On stage - Describe what teachers used.

P4: Team 4 - Potato sculpture.

P5: Team 5 Around the world.

Walking sensible to the hall for immersion assembly, we covered ourselves with our jackets but it still spat rain upon our heads. Wiping our shoes against the carpet, I surprisingly looked to the stage to see what our theme was for this term. It was “Game On” but then shockingly, as I sat down in the second row of seats I see someone riding a bike but it wasn't really moving anyway, only the back wheel was moving. Suddenly Mrs Jacobson rode in on his bike but unfortunately Wyatt was in front of him so Mrs Jacobson couldn't go anyway but once Mrs Jacobson got off his bike he introduced us back to school.

Just then team 1 was getting ready for their performance but first they had a movie to share with us. Their movie was about the Glasgow games. The whole school was learning about the Glasgow games but different subjects. It showed athletes from different countries. It showed the queen talking but it wasn't the real one it was one of the teachers from team 1. After watching the movie they went up on the stage to show us which country they supported.

Next was team 2, team 2 shared a movie also. It was about athletes doing different events like running, boxing, shot put and javelin.

Later that morning team 2 just finished their movie. Then it was time for team 3, team 3’s was about rhythmic gymnastics where they had to dance like ballerinas. The equipment they used were ribbons, hula hoops and bounce balls they even wore tutu’s. As the movie played they danced like beautiful ballerinas. Everybody clapped and cheered as they got off the stage.

Sooner or later Mrs Jacobson welcomed the amazing team 4 to the stage. As everybody clapped and cheered as the wonderful movie from team 4 appeared on the screen. It showed the teacher supporting different teams in the potato event. Miss Ouano was competing from Scotland, Miss Lavakula was competing from India, Miss Garden was competing from, Mrs Somerville was competing from Canada and Mr Goodwin competing from Jamaica.

What they had to do was make potato sculptures, suddenly Mrs Somerville got disqualified from the games, meanwhile the other contestants were making their sculptures when Miss Garden took some of Miss Ouano potato, then Miss garden got disqualified from the games, she had a very sad look on her face but it wasn't over yet there was three more contents left. Once they finished their sculptures they presented it and the winner was Mr Goodwin competing from Jamaica. As everybody clapped and cheered, team 5’s movie appeared on the screen, it show all team 5’s teachers in different countries. Mrs Nua went to Spain, Miss Clark went to New York she met lots of people there like Kim Kardashian, Miss Paget went to Atlanta to see the blue angels, Miss Squires went to Peru, Miss Slade went to Fiji and Miss Tito went to Samoa. Once immersion assembly was finish we went back to class.

My Holiday

My Holiday

On Friday the 18th of July, my two aunt's Shalom and Agape, my sister, Antonia and me, went to the Manukau movies to watch the new Transformers, age of extinction. We got there in my grandfather's car, he didn't come because he doesn't like going movie.

The movie started at 4.20 so we just went around window shopping, window shopping is going looking through shops but not buying anything. My aunt's friend was here, and she had to buy some black earrings to match her black dress so we went to a few shops. Once it was 4.10 we went back to the movies to get our popcorn but we didn't just get popcorn, my sister and I got ice creams each and all of us got a coke.

After we left for cinema 4 but we had to wait because they were still cleaning it so we just took pictures in front of the 3D posters. Once we could go to cinema 4 we saw a little bar if you wanted food for the movie. When we got inside I saw the boy that I knew, he was my sister friend, friend. As I looked for my seat the movie started to begin but it wasn't it was just adds and trailers of other movies. I ate my whole ice cream though all the ads and trailers.

Once the movie started to begin I ate my popcorn one by one so it will last throughout the movie. When it got half way though I just finished my popcorn and my drink but I was still thirsty. Once the movie finished I hoping there would be another one coming. As I walked out with my family I saw another step up poster. I was so shocked, I so wanted to watch that when it comes out.

Future Aspirations

Future Aspirations
P1:
Surprisingly, this morning classes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 went to the street to meet four amazing people Andrew, Jason Sharma, Arizona Leger and Alfred Ferreira, that will inspire us with our future. As we sang, Mimi Mai Ra our school waiata, the four amazing people came in behind us and sat as we finished. Suddenly Mr Jacobson came to the front to talk to us about what inspired him to be a teacher and what happened along the way too.

P2: During that morning I was getting really inspired by all the things they had to say but the most person that inspired me the most was Arizona Leger. Arizona Leger inspired me the most because she was really confident. She shared with us lots of things about her life, and how she became a speaker she also shared with five things about our fingers. First finger was Tihe, do your mihe, that means to do your work. Secondly was Lua, two, a poem by Dr. Seuss, today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive who is you-er than you. Next was Sun, Sun means three in Japanese and Sun is to have fun. Next was four, to bring down the door and to be confident. Last was five, strive to stay alive.

P3: In the end we all had a good time but sadly they had to go. They had places to go and people to see because that's their job so as we sang our song, Mimi Mai Ra, they slowly left the street but first Rocky one of perfect said thank for speeding your time and sharing how you became speakers, teachers, radio reporters and police officers so thank you. After singing our song we left the street and went back to class. Later on that morning my friend Zariah and me saw Arizona again so we went and told her where she got her shoes. As we went back to class with a smile on our face’s we started to giggle and go back to work.

Netball

              Netball

Every Tuesday years 6 to 8 have their netball games so we get changed into their netball uniform but first Miss V our sports teacher does the roll to check if everybody is here. Once we have finished getting changed we go do some warm ups before the game but some of us have games early like at 4.15 so they have to leave straight away.

When Mrs Nua came, we hop straight into the her car and left for the AMI netball courts. Once we got there it was spitting so we ran near the toilets and warmed up. The warm ups we did were in’s and out’s, 50 50 we even went up down the stairs trying to get use to the rain. When we played but we won't bother anyways because when we play we will be very hot, running around trying to get the ball. Suddenly we had to go to our court when we got there we did more warm up but then we had to start. “Buzz” that was the buzzer for when we start.

I was C that stands for Center so I could go anywhere but not in the two circles. When the first quarter was over the girls switched their positions but I didn't?, I stayed “Center”, anyways when we go back on the court we did our cheer but the buzzer went off again so we didn't have time to do our cheer we just went on the court hoping we would win.

After the second quarter was done we drank some water to cool us down, then went back on the court for the third quarter, it was really close we nearly catched up to them with the points, we only needed 3 more so on the last quarter we did our best to try and beat them and we did, we won by 1 point. After winning our game we got changed and went home.

Science Road Show

     images.jpg
        The Science Road Show
On Wednesday the 23rd of may 2014 class 5 along with class 2 went to Tamaki College to explore the wonderful Road Show that they invited us to see. Once we got there we saw signs that lead to a truck, outside the auditorium/hall. When we got to the entrance of the auditorium we saw a very tall man who came out wearing a green t-shirt with black pants, his name was Shane. He told us to come inside and sit in the three rows of seats in the middle of the auditorium.

As we sat, the presenters asked for three volunteers, my hand shoot up like a cannonball, she selected two boys, Lisa and Anthony also one girl that was me. As I went down the stairs my heart was pumping very fast, I couldn't think, I was too scared to look at the kids sitting in front of me but my friend Zariah was cheering for me so I gained a bit of confidence.

When I looked at the lady she asked the kids, how much air do you have in your lungs. All you have to do is take a deep breath in and blow it out into this cube, that is attached to this jar and then watch what happens. After a while I took a deep breath in and blew into the cube, suddenly the water started to change colour, from blue to a kind of see through colour it also started to bubble like boiling water.

Later that morning we started to play with some of the experiments they had in the auditorium. As we left to go play with the experiments they asked us that there will be some students from Tamaki College, helping us with the experiments, they also told us that the ones with the yellow flags are the ones you mostly want to look at in this competition, if you're interested in it.

The first thing you need to do is go to a table and get a card that lists Earth Magnetic Field, Bowling Ball Piston, Focus Point and Local Gravity but the second one is not here today so just skip it. Then go to the yellow flags, and read the board to see what you are doing and finding. The first yellow flag I went to was the Focus Point thats where you had to find the hot spot in this bowl that looked like a mirror, there was also a very hot light bulb that was a few meters above it.

Meanwhile Isaiah pushed in front of me and started to find the hot spot, “Hey thats not fair” I said in a disappointing way, I was here first but on the other side there was a boy from Tamaki College his name was Jonden. F but I was pretty sure the F was Fifta anyways he gave me a clue and said it was around the bottom, “THANK YOU” I said in a happy voice.

Then I called out Tyson and he came to where I was standing and said “What is it”, “I think the hot spot is around here” I said in a confident voice, as I pointed to the hot spot Isaiah pushed in and said “Yeah its over there”, I was really crossed so I started to ignore him and talk to Tyson, I said “The light is reflecting off the mirror which is creating the hot spot here”. I started to bite my lip because I was nervous but then he said “Nah, thats not where the hot spot is”, “Ohh man” I said in a disappointing way.

“Nah Im just kidding” Tyson said, my frown turned into a smile but I was also disappointed at Isaiah for pushing in line. After getting a pinch in my card I went to the next activity with a yellow flag. As I ran to the next activity I thought of the prize... suddenly I saw Isaiah follow but when I got there it was some kind of spinning thing, as I span it there were four cylinders, two had water and to red balls in it, the other two had air with two yellow balls.

As I spun Local Gravity device, the first two red balls and the water leaned in, the other yellow balls went out. That was really strange how come the red balls went in and the other two went out? Maybe because when you spin it, its like a rollercoaster  so for example those spinning things at rainbows end, they make you spin out so that might be for the yellow balls.

Then how does the red balls work then? As I thought I called Tyson, he came over fast. I asked him when you spin the Local Gravity device the yellow balls lean out, its like those spinning thing at rainbows end, they make you spin out. “Yesssss” I shouted and got a pinch in my card.

Since Isaiah was too busy walking around I ran to the next activity, Earth Magnetic Field, I didn't know what to do but when I put the magnet on the yellow spot that was on the globe it faced down so I looked under the globe and saw another yellow spot but I got another pinch in the card anyway.

Finally I put my card in the box I couldn't wait whose name will come out. When it was time to go back and sit down they showed us how much pee we can hold in our bladder, they also told us how much we do in a day and year. Suddenly they started to show us poo and how much poo we do in a year, it was so disgusting I couldn't bear to watch more but then the presenters showed us the little intestine and how the food travels through them and into the larger intestine but then it was time to go, it was really sad but after all we did have a good time.

What my holiday was like

     What my holiday was like

In the holiday my aunt came to my house to make our lunch, she was making macaroni and cheese. She made the best macaroni and cheese I ever tasted, just have a hand full and your already full.

When she was making the macaroni and cheese we were washing the dishes. After washing the dishes we went outside with some muffins she baked at her home, she also baked scones, they were delicious.

Once it got to lunch time my aunt finished the macaroni and cheese. “Yeah” we all shouted. As we ate our macaroni and cheese we said thank you to our aunt as she left with her three son, our cosines.

Badminton

             Badminton

Surprisingly, Miss Paget told us we were going to badminton in the hall at nine o’ clock. “Yeah” we all shouted with joy but first we were doing our Information Reports for reading.

Later that morning we left class and headed for the hall, once we got there we saw a man and a lady standing by the stage. When we sat down the man introduces himself, his name was Robby and the lady never told us her name she just helped us if we got stuck, anyways he told us how to hold a racket and told us to practise with the shuttlecocks.

After trying to hit the shuttlecock in the air I stopped to take a break. “Whoo” that was tiring but I got the hang of it. When we finish badminton we went back to glass laughing. I can wait to do that again.

Sound and Instrument Exploration

Screenshot from 2014-05-14 10:19:01.png

IN the class we did another activity,, it was “Sound and instrument exploration”. The first thing I did was pick an instrument and it was the pipes. When I clicked the pipes, I had to find the pipe that played the same note, next I had to find the pipe that played the highest note, then the lowest.

After that I had to play each of the pipes then select the statement that was true, there was A: The widest pipe plays the lowest note, B: The thinnest pipe plays highest note, C: The pipes play all the same note, so I listened to the pipes and all of them sound the same so I pick C and I was right. Later that afternoon I finished the game and went out to lunch.

Making Sound

This afternoon we had an activity to do on our netbooks. We were making sound on  making music, match the sound. We had to listen to the sound and match it with the patterns on the screen, by doing that we had drag the hand that looks like it twisting a knob, up or down. Then we had to selected the hand with the pick and it will pluck the string to make sound. If I shorten the the string, the note sounds higher, if I loosen the string, the note sound lower. There is five questions and three levels once I am finished then I go on the next game "Sound and instrument exploration".

Immersion Assembly

Immersion Assembly on Friday.

“Wow” as I jumped with excitement, the hall was packed with loads of balloons, kids and the music was loud, filling the air. As I sat next to my friends we saw teachers dressed in different kinds of clothes and had coloured wigs with equipment like fishing nets, goggles and loads more. When I looked at the screen I noticed our topic was “I like to move it, move it”.

When Mr Burt walked in the hall, he welcomed us back to school, then introduced team 1 to the stage, everybody clapped and cheered as their movie came on the screen. After watching an amazing movie of the zoo, Miss gorge came to the stage saying “Yes we are going to the zoo tomorrow but team 1 are learning about how to keep animals safe but also us too”.

Seconds later team 2 came to the stage with brilliant movie of hot air balloons and planes with a song in the background called “Those magnificent men in the flying machine” that was an awesome performance that did and they costumes were amazing.

As Mr Burt introduced team 3 to the stage, a rainbow of different colours appeared on screen, my friends and I saw all the pretty, bright clothing that team 3 was wearing. When team 3 walk on stage Mrs Barks pick up the microphone and told us things about colour that we didn’t know meanwhile team 4 was getting ready.

In a very loud voice Mr Burt now introduced team 4 to the stage, everybody clapped and cheered as they came on. A movie appeared on screen  meanwhile my friends and I were watching Mr S (stort for Somerville) trying to get on stage with his giant flippers and harpoon gun but unfortunately he made it on the stage. When Miss Garden picked up the microphone and spoke into it with a clear voice, “We are going to do a quiz now who ever get a question right gets a chocolate fish” everybody was joyful and jumping up and down.

After an amazing performance by team 4 Mr Burt introduced team 5 to the stage, “Yeah” my friends and I shouted. As Mr Barks came to the stage he was holding an enormous plastic pole with balloons at the end but at the top was a  part of a hose sticking out.

When Mr Barks blew through the hose it made a noise like a trumpet but when he finished, a movie seemed to come out behind him on screen as he was walking through the middle of the hall.

suddenly the movie appeared with Mr Barks there, standing there playing the instrument he was play just before, seconds later other teachers seemed to be in the movie. One by one they all played a an instrument they all created to share what we were learning, then they all came together and played their instrument but we all knew those instruments didn't make a sound like that so they just put music over it so it sounds like they are playing it but they weren't, anyway they started to play with real instruments.

Later that morning assembly finished and we all went to class with a smile on our faces.

PE @ Tamaki College

PE @ Tamaki College.

Every Friday, once I week the senior block goes to Tamaki College. The lessons get taken by the level two NZQA. We go there to get active, to be healthy, to work together as a team, to be trustworthy and to have fun.

Meanwhile, Mr Borland the Health and Physical Education puts us into groups also showing us our tutors that will help us in our activities. Once we got to know our tutors we did a little activity just to get warmed up, it was also really simple.

Seconds later our first activity that we had to do was amazing race, you had to go from place to place to get your next clue.

Our goal is to work together as a team to try and find the clues with ipads, we also had to try and beat the other team with only a little bit of time. The ipad are for scanning the QR codes on the objects. So we started at the tamaki goal post and our tutor showed us the first clue, our first clue was at the art room door we scanned the QR code and their was a pictures that popped up on the ipad, we looked at the photo and it was stairs.

After huffing and puffing we had a little rest and the nexted person scanned the QR code but it didn’t seem to work, we tried it like five times I think but it still didn't work so we just carried on and our tutor showed us the next clue. Later on that afternoon we were on our last clue it was very tricky because it was on a coal post up high so we worked as a team to hold Isaiah up so he can scan it, as he scanned it we put him down gently and saw it was still not working.

So we ran as fast as we can back to the Tamaki College Rec centre sooner or later we so the other team coming so we won, “Yeah” I shouted. We quickly went for a drink and sat down for a treat. “Mm that was “yummy” as I ate the last bit of  the chocolate. I can’t wait to go to Tamaki College next Friday.

How I made my empathy poster

How I made my empathy poster.

Our teacher Miss Paget had a activity for us to do in our glass room, we were making empathy poster’s to show what we learned about empathy. On our posters we had to unclued pastel, crayons, photos, letters or words and a border so after colouring my poster and making a border I wrote some words like Feel, Connect, Help others, Look and Caring.

Once I finished my words I started putting photos on like a pair of shoes, the pair of shoes show you to put yourself in their shoes so you care I also stuck some photos of someone caring for the other person, I saw friends family even pets.

Later that morning Miss Paget was pinning up the posters since I was finished I walked to where Miss Paget was standing and gently placed my poster underneath the rest of the posters then quickly went and sat down.

As I watched Miss Paget pin up the posters I look at the other posters she pined up and there was very cool and interesting ones, just then Miss Paget yelled out and said “Who’s this one” I froze with fight then looked at the poster it was mine I raised my hand slowly she looked at me and said everything fell of because you can stick clue on pastel its wax, I sorry but it can’t go up. I was very sad but I got over it, any ways my one wasn't the only one that didn't get pinned up.

Picking Peas

Picking Peas

The pictures help to show where, what, when and how they do things in their part of the country.

Most pictures are of kids and adults showing to pick pea and how they grow also where they are located. They are different to us because they do loads of different things like for example they wear different clothes, ride different motors and do different things.

The pictures show how they work and manage a pea farm.

They live in India, La haul a place where they like to make and eat curry.

Pea season is in July, it lasts for three short weeks

If you want to pick a pea you need to hold it by the base, where it is attached to the pea plant, so that it doesn't split open.

The peas that are not ripe you leave to dry for the crows to come and eat because the crows like dry peas.

When you open a pea pod it is like zipping a zip - lock plastic bag.

The weight of most of the pea sacks are about between 40 and 50 kilograms.

The truck drivers journey is very dangerous when delivering the peas because they have to go over a 4000 - meter - high mountain pass.

The pea get delivered to the vegetable markets of Delhi as fresh, green, and crunchy as possible.

Mussel Time

W.A.L.T: I am learning to use five senses to create a mental image to help me visualise what I am reading. I sketch or use a graphic organiser to represent my my thinking.

Mussel Time

The boys chose Ms Howe to join them with their kai. They chose her because of her love for the school children and because her presence gives honour to the occasion.

Painga thanks God for looking after the boys while they were cooking and asks him to look after their mothers and fathers, the old people, the little babies at home, and the new children at school.

The boys shake Painga’s hand to thank him as a sign of respect for his words.

Sharing food strengthens the boy’s friendship.

How I Get to School (Writing)

How I Get to School.

As I was tossing and turning I woke up 7.00 with this really bad dream and yawned really loud, “AHHHH”. I pulled the blanket off of me and quickly jumped out of bed. I slowly put on my school uniform and shoes.

After I was tying up my shoes I heard the toast pop up and ran to go get it, I buttered it with butter and jam then started to much it, “Yummy that was yummy” I said. Then I tip some rice bubbles into my bowl and poured some milk, I quickly grabbed my spoon and dumped it into my bowl and took it out. With a big ahh I put my spoon in my mouth and munched it all up.

When I was finished eating my breakfast I said P.U I need to go and brush my teeth. When I snatched my tooth bush out of the toothbrush holder I grabbed the toothpaste and squirted it on my toothbrush I then started to brush my teeth up, down and side to side, then I raised my mouth and spat it all out.

After brushing my teeth I packed my lunch box and went to school with my 3 sisters including me it was 4, Oh!!! wait a minute “I forgot my water bottle,” oh . . . .  never mind.
